Compliance Assistance Program

Link to the National Compliance Assistance Clearinghouse - Provides "one-stop" access to more than 4,000 federal, state and other assistance providers' compliance assistance materials including: training materials, frequently asked questions, compliance guides, planned and ongoing assistance activities, Pollution Prevention (P2) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) information.

Link to National Compliance Assistance Centers - User-friendly "first-stop shops." Learn about federal and state environmental obligations in plain language. Look for the center specific to your industry or sector. Examples include: printing, construction, automotive service and repair, agriculture and local government. You can also access compliance tools and online training.

Link to Industry Sector Notebooks - This series of primers describes the environmental challenges facing more than 35 manufacturing, transportation, agricultural and government sectors.  Each notebook contains chapters on typical process operations, pollutants, applicable federal regulations, pollution prevention opportunities, the most common environmental violations within the sector, voluntary initiatives and associated organizations.

Link to Audit Protocols - These provide tools to help facilities conduct a self-audit and assess how well they are doing with federal environmental compliance. The protocols define terms, include an overview of the laws that apply to the sector and have user-friendly checklists to help with the self-assessments.

Link to EPA's Region 4 Small Business Assistance - The 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments established new regulatory permitting, operating and control requirements with the potential to impact small businesses. Congress recognized the difficulties that many small businesses would face in complying with the new regulations and directed each state government to establish a Small Business Technical and Environmental Compliance Assistance Program to assist the small business owners with environmental regulatory compliance.



Environmental Leadership Program

Link to National Performance Track - Performance Track is a voluntary partnership that recognizes top environmental performance among participating U.S. facilities of all types, sizes and complexity, public and private. Program partners are providing leadership in many areas, including preventing pollution at its source. Currently, the program has about 370 members and welcomes all qualifying facilities.

 

Brownfield Program

Link to EPA Brownfields Program - Brownfields are real property, the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant. Cleaning up and reinvesting in these properties takes development pressures off of undeveloped, open land, and both improves and protects the environment.

Link to National Brownfield Associations - National Brownfield Associations (NBA) is an international umbrella organization of national associations focused on the responsible redevelopment of brownfields. It is a growing organization run by a volunteer leadership team of experienced brownfield practitioners and a professional, full-time, dedicated staff.

Link to Northeast-Midwest Institute Brownfields - The Northeast-Midwest Institute is a Washington-based, private, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization dedicated to economic vitality, environmental quality and regional equity for Northeast and Midwest states. Formed in the mid-1970s, it fulfills its mission by conducting research and analysis, developing and advancing innovative policy, providing evaluation of key federal programs, disseminating information and highlighting sound economic and environmental technologies and practices.

Link to Kentucky Water and Wastewater Operators' Association - The Kentucky Water and Wastewater Operators' Association (KWWOA) is a statewide not-for-profit association. The KWWOA offers membership to all water and wastewater operators throughout the state of Kentucky.  

Link to Association of Boards of Certification - To provide an organization for certifying authorities that will facilitate communication and cooperation. Their goal is to help environmental certifying authorities do a better job by sharing information, know-how and resources. They believe this will enable all to better fulfill their responsibilities to ensure the competence of environmental occupations and laboratories.

Link to Lagoon Systems in Maine - This is an informational resource for operators of lagoon systems, which covers the design, operation and regulation of lagoons.

Link to Tracking Down the Roots of Our Sanitary Sewers - This site traces the history and development of sanitary sewers over a period of 5,500 years. Many topics are covered, from low-flow toilets to artsy manhole covers.
