Special Note for Wastewater Class
***The wastewater continuing education class at Barren River State Resort Park (SRP), scheduled for Aug. 6-7, 2008, will only provide non-process control continuing education hours.
Date Change for Operator Certification Class
***The date of the wastewater continuing education class at Kenlake SRP (WW 5409 and WW 5410) has been rescheduled for Nov. 18-20 at Kenlake SRP.
Brownfield Grants Awarded
The Kentucky Brownfield Program has been notified that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a total of $2 million for 10 brownfield grants to Kentucky communities. Owensboro received three grants for cleanup activities at brownfield sites. Covington received one grant for clean up and two assessment grants to inventory, characterize and conduct planning and community involvement related to brownfield sites. Louisville and Buffalo Trace Area Development District each received one assessment grant, while Letcher County Conservation District received two assessment grants.
The Kentucky Brownfield Program offers grant support services, including grant writing workshops and grant reviews. A series of grant writing workshops will be held in August for communities and organizations interested in applying for brownfield cleanup, assessment or revolving loan fund grants. Workshop for the Aluminum Industry
"Environmental Challenges and Opportunities for Kentucky's Aluminum Industry," a workshop hosted by the University of Kentucky's Center for Aluminum Technology (CAT) will be held on July 22 and 23, 2008, at the Marriott Griffin Gate Resort in Lexington. For more information, see

Brownfield Grant Writing Workshops
The Kentucky Brownfield Program would like to invite those interested in brownfield grants to come to one of its annual brownfield grant writing workshops. These free workshops will detail how the grants can be used and the strategies for applying for these funds.

Water Distribution Security Training
The Kentucky Water and Wastewater Operators Association, Division of Water and Division of Compliance Assistance are offering the free course, "Water Distribution Security Training," on Aug. 20, 2008, at Owensboro Municipal Utilities, 1531 E. 4th St., Owensboro.
The six-hour drinking water security workshop will focus on the tools and best practices available to detect, deter and mitigate potential threats to distribution systems.
